The short answer
For a UK investor, eToro charges no commission on stocks or ETFs, no custody fee, no inactivity fee, and nothing to withdraw from its GBP account, according to eToro’s fee schedule as of October 2026. The cost you will actually pay is the 0.75% currency conversion fee each time pounds become dollars or dollars become pounds. Buying £1,000 of a US share and taking the money back out costs about £15 if you use the GBP account, and about £27 if you fund the USD account directly.
Crypto costs 1% per position below Platinum Club tier, CFDs carry a spread plus nightly financing, and UK shares attract 0.5% stamp duty like everywhere else.

Does eToro charge commission on stocks in the UK?
No, and this is worth confirming because the answer changed for other countries. eToro’s fee page now says “a commission fee of $1 or $2 may apply when opening and closing a stock position, depending on your country of residence and the stock exchange”. The per-country table behind that sentence lists most of the world at $1 on major exchanges and $2 on Australian, Hong Kong, Dubai and Tokyo listings. The United Kingdom is listed at $0 on both.
So a UK resident buying Apple, Tesco or a FTSE 100 tracker pays no dealing charge. ETFs, copy trading and Smart Portfolios are commission-free in every country. The two exceptions to watch: short sales and leveraged stock positions are executed as CFDs, which bring spreads and overnight fees, and buying UK-listed shares (not ETFs) triggers 0.5% stamp duty reserve tax, rounded up to the nearest penny, which eToro passes to HMRC.
How much is eToro’s currency conversion fee?
This is the fee that decides whether eToro is cheap or expensive for you. The platform’s investment account runs in US dollars, and most of what people buy on it, US shares above all, is priced in dollars. UK clients can also hold a GBP account, provided by eToro Money UK Ltd, and that is where the conversion happens.
According to eToro’s conversion-fee page, as of October 2026:
- GBP account to USD and back: 0.75% per conversion, whether you are trading a US share with pounds or moving money between the two accounts.
- Depositing pounds straight into the USD account: 150 pips, by card, PayPal, Neteller, Skrill, online banking or bank transfer. Pips are a fixed slice of the exchange rate rather than a percentage; with GBP/USD around 1.30, 150 pips is roughly 1.15%.
- Depositing into or withdrawing from the GBP account itself: no conversion, because only pounds move.
Club members get a discount on conversions made through the GBP account: 20% for Silver and Gold, 40% for Platinum and Platinum+, 80% for Diamond. Bronze, which is everyone with under $5,000 on the platform, pays the full rate.
The comparison that matters: Trading 212 charges 0.15% for the same GBP-to-USD conversion, five times less. We break that down in Trading 212 fees explained.
One partial escape: eToro’s main fee page says the conversion fee is free on deposits triggered by a Recurring Investment plan. Its separate conversion page still describes this as a waiver running to 31 March 2026, so check the cost shown on the order screen before relying on it.
What does £1,000 into a US share and back out actually cost?
Take a UK investor with a Bronze account who sends £1,000 from a high-street bank, buys a US share, later sells it at the same price, and withdraws to the same bank. Market spreads and price movements are left out so that only eToro’s charges show.
Route 1: through the GBP account (the cheaper way)
| Step | Fee | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer into GBP account | free | £0 |
| Buy US share, GBP converted to USD | 0.75% | £7.50 |
| Commission | $0 for UK | £0 |
| Sell, USD converted back to GBP | 0.75% on ~£992.50 | £7.44 |
| Withdraw from GBP account | free | £0 |
| Total | about £14.94 (1.49%) |
Route 2: depositing pounds straight into the USD account
| Step | Fee | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer, GBP converted to USD | 150 pips (~1.15% at 1.30) | about £11.50 |
| Buy and sell US share | $0 commission | £0 |
| Withdraw USD to a UK bank, converted to GBP | 150 pips | about £11.40 |
| Withdrawal fee | $5 flat | about £3.85 |
| Total | about £26.75 (2.7%) |
The exact route 2 figure moves with the exchange rate, but the shape does not: funding the USD account directly costs nearly twice as much as using the GBP account. The same round trip at Trading 212 costs about £3. At Silver or Gold Club level, route 1 falls to about £11.95; at Diamond, about £3.
Two ways to shrink it further. Leave the dollars in the USD account between trades rather than converting back each time, so you pay 0.75% once on the way in and once when you finally cash out. And buy UK-listed ETFs that track US indices, which trade in pounds and avoid conversion entirely.
How much does eToro charge to withdraw?
Nothing from the GBP account, $5 from the USD account. eToro’s fee page states that withdrawals from local currency accounts (GBP, EUR or DKK) to an external account are free with no minimum, while withdrawals from the USD investment account cost a fixed $5 with a $30 minimum. For a UK client the practical rule is simple: move money into the GBP account first and withdraw from there.
Is there an eToro inactivity fee?
Not as of October 2026. eToro’s fee schedule lists the inactivity fee as free. Until recently eToro charged $10 a month once an account had gone 12 months without a login, deducted from any remaining cash balance, and plenty of comparison sites still quote that. The current fee page does not list it, so an account left untouched no longer loses money each month.
What does eToro charge on crypto?
A flat 1% per position for Bronze, Silver and Gold members, charged when you open and when you close, according to eToro’s crypto fee table. Platinum, Platinum+ and Diamond members pay less, on a sliding scale by monthly volume: from 0.95%, 0.90% and 0.85% respectively under $10,000 a month, down to 0.10% above $10 million.
Two further crypto charges catch people out: moving coins from the eToro platform to an external wallet costs 2%, and selling crypto held in the eToro wallet back to pounds costs 0.6% to 1% depending on Club tier. For UK retail clients, crypto on eToro is the real asset; the FCA bans the sale of crypto CFDs to retail investors.
How much do eToro CFDs cost?
CFDs have no commission but two running costs. The spread, which eToro now lists as a percentage per trade on its CFD spreads page: 0.005% on EUR/USD and GBP/USD, 0.007% on the US 100 and Germany 40, 0.01% on the UK 100 as of October 2026. And the overnight fee, charged every weeknight at 22:00 UK time on any open CFD position, with a triple charge once a week for the weekend (Fridays for most stocks, ETFs and indices; Wednesdays for most currencies and commodities). Rates are published per unit, per night, and change with interest rates.
A short-term CFD trade is cheap at those spreads. A leveraged position held for months is not, because the nightly charge compounds. CFDs are high-risk products and a majority of eToro’s retail CFD accounts lose money, a figure eToro is required to publish. If you are weighing CFDs against the tax-free alternative, see spread betting vs CFDs.
Does eToro offer an ISA, and what does it cost?
Yes. eToro sells a Stocks and Shares ISA, a Managed ISA and a Cash ISA, all powered by Moneyfarm. The ISA is a separate account held with MFM Investment Ltd, which is FCA-authorised and covered by the FSCS up to £85,000; it is not a tax wrapper around your existing eToro portfolio.
According to eToro’s Stocks and Shares ISA page, the DIY ISA charges £0 to trade UK and US shares, ETFs and mutual funds, £0 on bonds and European shares, 0% custody, and 0.70% on currency conversion. You choose from more than 1,000 instruments rather than eToro’s full range, and ISA transfers in are free, though eToro says transferred holdings arrive as cash rather than the original shares. ISA balances count towards your Club tier.
How much interest does eToro pay on cash?
For residents of the UK and EU, eToro pays 3% a year on uninvested USD cash when your total account balance is between $1 and $50,000, and 3.80% above $50,000, according to its interest-on-balance page as of October 2026. Interest is calculated daily, paid monthly, and only once you switch it on in the Club dashboard. It applies to the USD cash balance only, so pounds in the GBP account do not earn it, and keeping cash in dollars means paying 0.75% to convert it there and back.
What the eToro Club changes
Club tier is set by your balance: Silver at $5,000, Gold at $10,000, Platinum at $25,000, Platinum+ at $50,000, Diamond at $250,000. Platinum and Platinum+ can also be bought by subscription. For fees, the tier affects only two things: the discount on currency conversion and the crypto rate. Commission, withdrawal and custody charges are the same for everyone.
Verdict
For a UK investor, eToro’s headline costs are now genuinely low: no commission, no custody fee, no inactivity charge, free GBP withdrawals. The catch is the 0.75% conversion fee each way, which turns a US-share round trip into about 1.5% before you have made a penny, against roughly 0.3% at Trading 212. If you value CopyTrader or eToro’s social features, use the GBP account, convert as rarely as possible and the cost is manageable. If you simply want to own US shares cheaply, it is not the cheapest route. The full assessment is in our eToro review, and eToro vs Trading 212 puts the two side by side.
Häufig gestellte Fragen
Does eToro charge commission on stocks in the UK?
No. eToro's fee page lists a $1 or $2 commission per stock trade in many countries, but its per-country table shows $0 for the United Kingdom on every exchange, as of October 2026. ETFs are commission-free everywhere. UK shares still carry 0.5% stamp duty, which is a government tax that every broker collects, not an eToro fee.
How much is eToro's currency conversion fee for GBP?
0.75% when you convert between an eToro GBP account and USD, which happens every time you buy or sell a US share with pounds. Depositing pounds straight into the USD account costs 150 pips by card, e-wallet, online banking or bank transfer, roughly 1.1% at current exchange rates. Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond Club members get 20% to 80% off the GBP-account rate.
Does eToro still charge a $5 withdrawal fee?
Only from the USD account. eToro charges a flat $5, with a $30 minimum, to withdraw from the USD investment account to an external bank. Withdrawals from a local currency account, which for UK clients is the GBP account provided by eToro Money UK Ltd, are free with no minimum. Withdraw in pounds and the $5 never applies.
Is there an inactivity fee on eToro?
Not any more. eToro's fee schedule lists the inactivity fee as free, as of October 2026. For years eToro charged $10 a month once an account had gone 12 months without a login, and many comparison sites still quote that figure. The current fee page does not, so a dormant account is no longer slowly drained.
Does the eToro ISA have fees?
The eToro Stocks and Shares ISA is run by Moneyfarm and has its own price list: £0 to trade UK and US shares, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds and European shares, a 0% custody fee, and a 0.70% currency conversion fee. It is a separate account from the main eToro platform, with FSCS cover up to £85,000 through MFM Investment Ltd.
